IRISH FARRIERY AUTHORITY

IRISH FARRIERY AUTHORITY

The Irish Farriery Authority was established in March 1999, in response to E.U. directives, stipulating that authorities on farriery be set up in each E.U. State.

The Irish Farriery Authority was also given responsibility to:

  • Establish an Irish School of Farriery
  • Educate and train apprentices attending the school and to certify their competence in farriery
  • Promote farriery, support farriers and provide the opportunity for continuing education
  • Provide seminars and training for horse owners
  • Provide training in farriery to individuals from Ireland, the EU and outside the EU

The Irish Farriery Authority consists of representatives from both the Thoroughbred and the non-Thoroughbred sectors of the horse industry.
